Grow for Jesus — Your Business. Your Ministry.

Grow for Jesus is a Bible study designed to help business owners and entrepreneurs discover how to use their business as their ministry.

As business owners, it’s easy to get focused on more customers, more revenue, bigger territory, and the next opportunity. But what if God is also asking us to look at the community He has already placed right in front of us?

How can I serve them?
How can I encourage them?
How can I show Christ through the way I lead, work, and do business?

Grow for Jesus is open to all business owners, entrepreneurs, and anyone who wants to take a deeper look at how their business can become a platform for ministry and impact.

We’ll meet online once a month for Bible study, conversation, encouragement, and practical ways to put our faith into action through our businesses.

🙏 Grow your faith. Serve your community. Use your business for a greater purpose.

Business by the Book

By Larry Burkett | Chapter 2: Basic Biblical Minimums

Bible Study & Business Discussion Guide

1. Chapter Overview

In Chapter 2, Basic Biblical Minimums, Larry Burkett explores the foundational biblical principles that should guide every Christian business owner.

The central message is that running a business God's way requires more than simply being a good person or making a profit. It means establishing biblical standards that guide our decisions, relationships, and financial practices.

Key principles to consider:

  1. Integrity and Honesty: Always tell the truth and conduct business honestly, even when it costs you money. (Proverbs 11:1)

  2. Fair Treatment: Treat employees, customers, vendors, and competitors with fairness and respect. (Luke 6:31)

  3. Financial Responsibility: Manage money wisely, honor commitments, and avoid unnecessary debt. (Proverbs 22:7)

  4. Keeping Your Word: Follow through on promises and agreements, even when circumstances change. (Matthew 5:37)

  5. Putting God First: Recognize that your business is a responsibility entrusted to you by God, not simply a way to accumulate wealth. (Colossians 3:23)

2. Real-World Business Example

The Contractor's Dilemma

A Christian contractor agrees to remodel a customer's kitchen for $15,000. Halfway through the project, he discovers that he underestimated the labor costs by $2,000.

He has two choices:

  • Option A: Find ways to cut corners, use cheaper materials, or charge the customer additional fees that weren't originally discussed.

  • Option B: Honor the agreement, complete the project as promised, and accept a smaller profit.

The Biblical Approach: The contractor should honor the agreement unless the customer willingly agrees to a legitimate change in scope. Although it may cost him money today, maintaining integrity can build trust, referrals, and a strong reputation for the future.

Scripture to consider: Psalm 15:4 — honoring one's word even when it is costly.

3. Group Discussion Questions

1. Integrity: Have you ever faced a business situation where doing the right thing would cost you money? How did you handle it?

2. Biblical Standards: Which biblical principle is the most difficult to consistently practice in today's competitive business environment?

3. Employees and Customers: How should our Christian faith influence the way we treat difficult customers, underperforming employees, or competitors?

4. Profit vs. Principles: Is there ever a situation where pursuing greater profits can conflict with biblical values? How should a Christian business owner respond?

5. Personal Application: If someone examined your business practices without knowing you were a Christian, what evidence would they see that your business operates on biblical principles?

4. Take-Home Challenge

The Biblical Business Audit

This week, evaluate your business in three areas: honesty, financial responsibility, and treatment of others.

Identify one area where your business practices could better reflect biblical principles. Write down one specific change you will make and be prepared to share your experience at the next meeting.

Closing Thought

Your business is not just a place to earn a living. It is an opportunity to demonstrate your faith through your actions, decisions, and relationships.
